MID-ATLANTIC POLICE & FIRE
SURVIVORS' WEEKEND
NEW DATES: October 1-3, 2021

IMPORTANT MESSAGE

Hello Survivors and Supporters!

This year's Mid-Atlantic Police and Fire Survivors Weekend will be held October 1-3, 2021, in North Wildwood, NJ. This will be a special year for us—because the pandemic ravaged 2020, we cancelled last year's series of events. That was tough but necessary. This year's MAPFSW will be somewhat limited in scope, but still a much-needed gathering for all of us.

There is bigger news, however. It's with sadness we have decided this year's MAPFSW will be the last. Many Survivors on the planning committee, and members of the North Wildwood Police Department, have been involved with this special weekend for two decades. So much has changed in our lives over that period, which has made it difficult to maintain the support we once had.

Over the past two decades much has changed with MAPFSW—one of those changes was to begin honoring our Fallen Firefighter Heroes.

MAPFSW took a lot of planning every year. In the early years, there were multiple agencies from all over the mid-Atlantic region who participated, providing Officers, Cruisers, Horses, Helicopters, K-9s, and more, including an amazing Motorcycle Show. We had large parades that represented many agencies with many Officers in uniform marching with us Survivors. Unfortunately, over time, agency administrations changed.

In only a matter of a year or so after 2008, budgets were reduced and many agencies stopped taking part in MAPFSW. Despite our efforts, attendance by Survivors and Supporters also dwindled to the point where a parade was impractical. The agency static displays drew people, but in time it also became tough for them to justify the expense.

Perhaps the weekend will live on as a casual reunion in North Wildwood without the major planning; or perhaps others will take up a similar effort elsewhere. We still want to see each other, and many of us will.

It's been a meaningful and wonderful effort that has enriched us. We hope to see you at this year's MAPFSW. Save the dates—October 1-3, 2021. If you know of any fallen Police or Firefighter Heroes who have not yet been honored at our event, please let us know as this is the last year. You can also use the special registration form.

We look forward to seeing you!

The weekend focuses on survivors from the following states: New Jersey, New York, Delaware, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia. However, in past years we have honored the requests of families that reside in our region and hosted families from Georgia and Colorado, in addition to those from the Mid-Atlantic region. We are also different in that we recognize survivors from not just the current year, but those that were killed in the line of duty from the past. The event is hosted by the North Wildwood Police Department and is held in the seashore resort of North Wildwood, New Jersey.
